Medical Letter (MedLetter) follows the authorship recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). Authorship should accurately reflect each individual's contribution to the research and publication process.
To qualify as an author, each contributor should:
Make a substantial contribution to the study.
Participate in drafting or critically revising the manuscript.
Approve the final version before submission.
Accept responsibility and accountability for the published work.
Individuals who do not meet these criteria should be acknowledged rather than listed as authors.
Authors are required to provide a clear description of each author's individual contributions during manuscript submission. This information promotes transparency and accountability in scholarly publishing.
Any request to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must:
Be submitted in writing.
Include the reason for the change.
Receive written approval from all authors.
The Editorial Office will evaluate such requests in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Medical Letter reserves the right to investigate authorship disputes, suspected ghost authorship, guest authorship, or other unethical authorship practices. Cases of misconduct will be handled following COPE and ICMJE recommendations and may result in manuscript rejection, correction, or retraction where appropriate.
